Overview
We install replacement windows across Essex from compact two-bed terraces in Basildon up to full-house refits in Hertford and Brentwood. Most jobs are A-rated PVC casements, slim-sightline aluminium for contemporary frontages, or timber-effect PVC where conservation guidance applies.
A typical full-house install runs 2–4 days on site once frames are manufactured. Single windows fit in a day. Every opening is surveyed in person — no off-the-shelf sizing, no manufacturer's templates lifted off a tape-thrown measure.
What goes wrong
The most common issues we get called to fix on other people's installs are: oversized openings packed out with foam instead of properly sized frames; missing trickle vents triggering Building Regs Part F failures; sealant beads applied over wet brickwork that fail within 18 months; and EPDM tapes omitted entirely, letting wind-driven rain track behind the frame into the cavity.
None of those are product failures — they're survey and install failures. A window system from any reputable manufacturer (any leading aluminium or PVC system) will perform for 25–30 years if it's measured and fitted correctly. The cost of a redo is the original price plus disruption, so getting the first install right matters.
Process
01
Site visit, accurate measure of every opening, structural reveal check, discussion of frame and glass options for the property type.
02
Itemised by opening — frame, glass, hardware, trickle vents, fitting, removal and disposal — so you can see every line.
03
Frames built to order. PVC 3–4 weeks, aluminium 5–7 weeks. Install date confirmed the day frames leave the factory.
04
Removal of old units, accurate fit using packers and shims (not just foam), proper EPDM tapes, internal beading and a tidy site at the end of every day.
05
Walk-around with you to test every opening, snag list resolved on the spot, Certass notification within 30 days and a written workmanship guarantee.
Benefits
A-rated double glazing typically cuts window-related heat loss by around 70% compared to single glazing — measurable on your next winter bill.
4mm/16mm/4mm acoustic-laminated units knock 5–8 decibels off road noise — meaningful on the A12, A127 and A13 corridors.
Multi-point shoot bolts, internally-beaded sashes and laminated glass options on ground-floor openings as standard, not as an upsell.
EPDM tapes, properly sized frames and silicone-bedded cills — not foam-only installs that fail at the first horizontal-rain storm.
Trickle vents specified discreetly, slim sightlines on bays and casements, and timber-effect woodgrain finishes where the property warrants it.
Building-regs notification handled by us, plus our own workmanship guarantee on top of the manufacturer's frame and glass warranties.
In Detail
PVC frames: we mainly fit leading PVC systems — fully reinforced, multi-chambered, with steel inserts on larger openings. Standard finish is white internally and externally; foiled woodgrains (rosewood, anthracite, agate grey, chartwell green) are a 1–2 week longer lead time but visually transform a frontage.
Aluminium frames: Smart's Alitherm 70/Heritage and premium aluminium window systems are our go-to systems for slim sightlines and large openings. Powder-coat colour is to RAL specification — anthracite (RAL 7016), jet black, slate grey and pure white are the most-asked finishes in Essex.
Glass spec: 4-16-4 argon-filled units with a warm-edge spacer bar are baseline. Acoustic laminated glass (6.4mm front pane) is standard on roadside elevations. Solar-control glass goes onto south-facing rear extensions where overheating is a real risk.
Bay windows: structural posts where required, lead-rolled flashings on bay roofs, and proper soffit detailing — not just three windows trim-stuck together.
